Customer Reviews

Good buy for for economic telephotos lens
I dont know in depth of lens technology since I am new to this field and I dont hesitate to call myself a novice user in this field. However I have been learning of late about all this stuff and reading the reviews of lens. About Sigma 70-300 DG lens - I am happy with it I get to play around a lot connecting it to Canon 450D. Worth mentioning that I got very good portrait pictures and macros using this lense. It covers quite a good distance. Backgorund blurr effect is amazing. Quality may not be called as "Outstanding" as compared to canon telephoto lens. I will post few pictures taken by this lens.

Great purchase with a Rebel XSi body
This was my first time purchasing a professional SLR. I bought a Canon Rebel XSi body and was looking for a good lens. I came across this kit which seemed to good to be true of course. Im usually skeptical since Ive read in ripoffreport.com about places that offer kits like these and end up scamming you. Anyway I received it ONTIME 2days and with everything except the SAMSONITE BAG. I was a bit worried so I called right-away and spoke to a representative that politely explained why the SAMSONITE bag wasnt included. He said since what you are really paying for is for the lenses all the other accessories werent priced. They ran-out of the SAMSONITE bags and instead gave me a VIDPRO bag along with a smaller HOLSTER CAMERA CASE. They also gave me a SAMSONITE tripod which I wasnt expecting it to be that brand. All in all Im very happy with the purchase I didnt complain about the bag missing he was very nice and said if I had any questions to call back. 4 stars because they dont have it specified that the SAMSONITE bags are not offered. It is an excellent purchase to go along with just a purchase of a Canon Camera body. Hope that helps

so far It has been a great buy and definently met my expectations
I went on a vacation to Yellowstone right after i received the lenses and they allowed me to take so many more pictures than i could with my old lens. I was able to take alot of pictures of wildlife with the 70-300mm telephoto lens and i was able to fit entire landscapes easily with the 28-70mm lens. the filters that come with the package also increased the clarity and contrast of my pictures. The lens cleaning kit did not work very well and i was pretty dissatisfied with it and the tripod is ok but very cheap so it cannot support the telephoto lens. the whole package was very great for its price and i am overall pleased with it but i did not expect all of the things other than the lenses to be cheap products from wal-mart. the delivery was fast to and it came with everything thats mentioned. if you have the money and are looking for affordable and useful lenses that can handle many different situations then i defiantly recommend this kit. The lenses are not quite professional quality but they sure do get the job done. it was like christmas morning opening up all the stuff that came in the package.

With the Image Stabilizer activated you can obtain sharp natural-looking pictures even in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. This is especially handy for places where flash is prohibited such as museums churches concerts and stage events. In addition to its impressive zoom range the Canon EF 28-135mm uses Canons proprietary USM technology for swift and silent autofocus. ♦ The 6-Piece Cleaning Kit includes: a deluxe air blower lens cleaning liquid soft exterior cleaning cloth blower brush cotton swabs and a booklet of lens cleaning tissues. ♦ The CapKeeper 2 prevents lens cap loss with an adhesive-backed disc which conveniently attaches to the cap thereby securing it to an elastic band which easily attaches to your lens. ♦ The Hoya UV Haze Protector Filter is made of highest quality optical glass so that it can be left on your lens at all times even when youre taking pictures. A filter physically protects your lens in three ways: 1 it prevents any environmental damage to the delicate outer coatings of the lens 2 it shields the front element of your lens from accidental scuffs and scratches and 3 in the event of impact it absorbs most of the force which helps minimize any damage to the filter threads of your lens. Optically a UV Haze filter enhances image quality by reducing the adverse effects of ultraviolet light which can cause your outdoor photographs to appear hazy and indistinct. ♦ This lens-plus-necessities kit is the convenient and economical way to buy this lens.

New camera lense
I received my order within a couple of days and have used the lense for a wedding and IRL race so far so good

Very pleased with the price and quality
Been using for family bbqs and for everyday odds and ends. I find this to be a great lens for us "normal" people. For the other reviewer it is a $100 lens wake up. If you want "pro" buy one that costs a few hundred more.

Good value
This lens is a viable option to Canon lenses costing twice as much. An aspherical lens from a "brand" company would yeild similar results. Though not as exact as Canon optics geared for the EOS system a person without the high-end budget would do well to consider this alternative.

What a great Lens
I purchased Canon EF 28-105mm USM II lens a few months ago to go with my Canon XSi. I love taking photos of nature and have captured some really beautiful photos of butterflies other insects flowers and animals with this lens. My pictures have come out sharp and with excellent color. I appreciate how easy it is to use the manual zoom and the speed of the auto focus is really wonderful. To take close up photos I just set the camera on the close-up setting look for my subject set the zoom make sure I am 18 inches from the subject depress the shutter half way and wow - the auto focus is amazing on the subject and the background has just the right amount of blur. The quiet USM motor is nice too so that you dont scare away the insects with a lot of noise. All I have to do is crop my photo - no need for touch up of any kind. This camera and lens go great together. As far as value I think the quality is excellent for the money. It is worth every penny.

Excellent for its price
I have owned this lens for about a month now. I opted for this one instead of the 18-55mm kit lens upon reading numerous reviews that it is a great general purpose lens for starters. I have to say I am impressed with Canons USM system... and a relatively fast auto focus. I havent had a single time when the subjet was out of focus because of the lens mistake. It is pretty sharp around f5.6 all through the focal range.. mostly within 28-80mm range. To sum up: Pros: - A good general purpose Canon branded lens. 28-105mm is a decent focal range for starters. - USM is great. - AF is good.. mostly accurate. - Light weight not bulky in size. - Decently sharp throughout most of the range. Cons: - Colors are not very bright or vibrant.. but a little post processing is all it needs. Final notes: The 28-105mm is great for its flexible range and the decent sharpness and USM... I have used it for everything from semi-macros to portraits to landscapes to long exposure shots at night to birds. And the build is professionally solid. Worth the money

Great lens
This is a fabulous lens and the seller was absolutely great about trying to get it to me on time while working with me to figure out the best way. I appreciated their efforts and I ended up with a great product Thank you

Great Camera
am an advanced amateur with a good experience with Canon equipments 40D5D plus 5 L lens and 15 years shooting mainly landscape and wildlife. After a Safari to Africa I realized I needed two things - Higher ISO capacity to get better shots on the dark. Even with my 70-200 2.8 IS I missed some great shoots because ISO 3200 was not high enough - More resolution to crop bird pictures that my 40D with a 100-400L could not fill the whole frame So the 50D seemed like the perfect upgrade to my next photo safari to Tanzania. It have all the specs I wanted plus some cool features such as the VGA view. After three days using the camera I am glad I bought it. I can not compare this camera to the Nikon since all my gear are Canon but compared to the 40D and the 5D the performance of this camera is great it have more noise than the 5D but it is much more user friendly and 6.3 pictures per s is perfect for wildlife. Highly recommended

saving my money now
Canon 30d Macbookpro Aperture 2 dont mess with Photoshop shoot mainly local wildlife portriture for friends Childrens sports nothing pro or for profit First let me say i do not own this camera yet however I do have a little hands on experience read further: As an owner of twin 30ds and previous 10d & 20d Canon DSLRs I have been looking to replace one or both of my current models. As my research began an interesting fact popped up to give me some skepticism about making the 50d my choice. One of them was that thru reading other reviews there was information offered that the new Raw file from the 50d could not be read by various softwares. As a user of Apple and Aperture this gave me great concern. Yesterday I woke up and slowly made my way passed my cup of coffee and over to my Mac. After firing it up and logging in I notice there was a software update available. When I read the details low and behold it was a Aperture update enabling it to read the new Raw files being captured by the 50d and other Nikon olympus sony and other DSLRs. I accepted the download and went and got dressed. Took a little drive up to the local garden variety Camera/photo national franchise chain to develop some prints and asked it they had a 50d. sure enough they did. Luckily I had grabbed a CF card and stuck it in my pocket before heading out. The gentleman behind the counter offered me the camera and let me slap the Cf card in and play with it for awhile. What they say is true. The controls are a lot different. Still the same type fit and finish of the typical Canon offerings. However within 5-10 minutes or so the controls had been mastered. I like the new controls. there are too many to go into details but suffice it to say that I have made the decision to make the 50d my new workhorse. Of course there is still the lingering question of figuring out how and where to get the funds for the transaction. At approx. $1399 it is a good value based on the overall features and also considering what we have been paying for previous generation DSLR technology. Later when at home i had the chance to review the RAW files on Aperture which were taken with the 50d. Crisp clean good color just what we have come to expect from Canon. Something worth noting is that the file size shot in the full size RAW mode was 20MB so the mac and Aperture was laggin a little. The camera has three Raw sizes to choose from however. Personally i would mailnly shoot in the middle 7.1 mp mode most of the time. Having the 15.1 mp RAW capability feature is a tremendous tool to be able to work with. Getting my hands on one made all the difference and it is my humble opinion that the 50d is a solid offering and a strong value. All things considered I will probably be purchasing one within the next 60 days or so. Maybe for Chistmas who knows?

A big leap for some
Moving from a 400D XTi to the 50D was a huge leap for me. The vast improvement in ISO performance functions menu fps etc. was invaluable. As my skills have progressed I am looking forward to the opportunities afforded to me by the very powerful 50D. I will have to enhance my skills even more to fully use this camera. So for those moving from the Rebel line to an xxD series this is a great move. Or if this is your first DSLR you will not be disappointed. However if you already own an xxD such as the very popular 40D then this is probably not the best choice for you. As some comprehensive reviews have shown the 50D is not a major advancement from the 40D and really only offers some new features such as improved LCD micro-AF adjustment and a larger sensor. However it does not beat and sometimes looses to the 40D in terms of noise and per-pixel sharpness although both are still hotly debated. The point being if you are moving from the rebel series or this is your first camera it is amazing powerful and you will not be disappointed. However it is not evolutionary to the xxD line and is not a necessary trade-up for current xxD owners. This does not mean it is a bad or non-improved camera. It is amazing and incorporates many great new features. The value to you simply depends on your needs/style and where you are coming from.

Customer Reviews

A work horse
What can I say about the Canon 40D that hasnt already been written in dozens of photography magazines and web forums? Probably not a whole lot LOL If you are seriously considering this camera chances are you are already familiar with the brand if not the model by now so I will just highlight the things Ive found useful and the things I have found annoying about this camera and YES there are some things Ive found annoying. First let me say that for a "mid level" DSLR the piece of equipment is as my review title states a serious work horse. Having stepped up from a Canon Rebel XT which was a great DSLR in its own right I was quite impressed with the quality both of the camera itself and the images it creates right out of the box. My first gripe however is that after using my XT for a while I found the 40D to be rather bulky and cumbersome. If you are just stepping up to a "pro" level camera from something like a regular point & shoot or if you are like me and simply have small hands or as in my case both this is something to be aware of. The best analogy I can give is to be used to driving a small compact car like an old Chevy Chevette and suddenly finding yourself behind the wheel of a 56 Buick Roadmaster Its large its heavy and it feels rather awkward. Personally I also find having the info LCD on the top of the camera instead of the back of the camera to be...well...stupid. I really dont like having to stop and "tilt" the camera upwards just to read my settings. There is a button on the back to use the rear screen for this but its an extra step to have to do it...I thought the lay out of the Rebel XT was much nicer in this regard. Now as I said the image quality this camera produces makes the annoyance of the cameras size and poorly placed info LCD well worth dealing with. Even with my "cheap" third party lenses the images that have come off this camera have been superb. Ive cropped images at close to 100% that have still been very printable. Also I shoot in mostly Aperture Priority mode and Ive found the camera to be pretty much right on the nose most of the time. Speaking of crops another thing to be aware of is that this camera does have an APS-C sized sensor NOT full frame so there is aprox a 1.6x crop factor involved with the lenses. Not a complaint mind you but something to be aware of. Please note however this IS just a crop and not an actual zoom factor...and there IS a difference. And speaking of "IS"...this leads me to my second gripe. If you are already familiar with Canon then you should know by now that they have not yet started to incorporate IS or "Image Stabilization" into their DSLRs the way many of the other camera makers have. As such you usually have to pay a great deal extra for this feature as most Canon IS lenses are rather expensive. In fact with the exception of a couple of recently introduced EF-S models Canon IS lenses start around $600 and the sky is the virtual limit compared with many other brands with many of their lenses costing several thousands of dollars. All and all this is a great camera but its not "perfect" in the way some Canon aficionados would have you believe. Another minor gripe was that moving up from my XT I had to purchase new spare batteries all over again as the "Rebels" and their higher end counter parts use different batteries...even though both are Li-ion. The same is true of many of the accessories as well...I had to get a new remote the vertical grips arent compatible etc. etc.. If you already own a Rebel this is something to be aware of as youll have to replace all of these accessories that youve already shelled out cash for Now after reading this Im sure youre asking "With all these issues is it worth it?" and the answer is yes. Ive gotten shots with this camera that simply would not have been possible with anything else Ive ever owned digital or film. The focus is fast and accurate Ive had no compatibility problems with any of my lenses although I do have one fussy flash unit from ProMaster that still wont work with it and once you get used to it this camera has a lot of very useful features such as Highlight Priority etc.. If you already own Canon EOS gear remember this bugger wont work with FD equipment then its a very worth while upgrade considering the price drop. If you dont need the high ISOs of the new 50D or the full frame wonders of the 5D Mark II then the 40D is a wonderful investment and should serve you well for many years.

A great all around camera/lens combination
Im not going into all the lurid details but this is a GREAT camera and the 28-135 IS is the lens I use day to day with it. It gives a very good range of focal lengths and the IS feature helps with the camera shake at slow shutter speeds that all zoom lens suffer from. My only caveat is that theyre a bit heavy together. Not nearly as bad as some though If you cant afford the 50D this is an amazing value and the images are superb. Ive printed up to 12x18 with this 10 Mpixel camera and had good results. Depth of colour and sharpness are first rate. I recommend it highly.

Just get it
I shoot professionally full time specializing in advertising and weddings. When I got into advertising I was unsure if this 40d would produce a big enough file to accommodate billboards. Ive been proven wrong. 10.1 megapixels is sufficient for full sized billboards. For weddings in my experience anything larger than this file size would be overkill for the type of prints wedding couples want produced. The color accuracy has amazed me as well as the endless list of custom functions. You can truly trick this camera out to suit your individual shooting style. The body is rugged... I dont make a habit of dropping my gear like a schmuck but if that is your disposition then you will appreciate the magnesium alloy body. The size fits nicely in big hands and the weight is ideal over larger cameras such as the Mark II series which I have had the pleasure of shooting with. I will not be upgrading to the new 50d. I will instead be upgrading to the new 5d mark II once that comes out. Only for my own gluttonous reasons though. Take my word. This beast will serve you well
